All students in grades 5 through 8 attend Spanish classes two times each week.
The overall objective of the first two years of instruction is to develop listening and speaking proficiency. Students are introduced to basic vocabulary, and the structures and expressions for everyday communication. They are encouraged to respond orally and in writting to simple questions and commands using Spanish words, phrases, and short sentences.
Students in grades 7 and 8 continue to develop listening, speaking, and writing skills enabling them to communicate in greater detail. Students also begin to associate the spoken with the written words, and gradually begin to read familiar material with comprehension.
All grades are exposed to the history and culture of Spanish speaking countries through stories, songs, and celebrations.
Students attaining Spanish proficiency in grade 8 will recieve high school credit for Spanish I.
