St. Mary's has a very active student council. Being a member of the student council teaches students about leadership, involving them in meaningful ways as leaders at St Mary's.
It also provides them with opportunities to practice the basic skills that we associate with leadership such as setting goals, showing initiative, making decisions, communicating effectively, motivating others, and managing resources wisely. These are the kinds of skills that can help students later in life, but they have immediate impact as well. As they learn to work effectively with others, they build social skills and gain confidence and self esteem.
